Day 108: Popsicles and Sorbet

January 26, 2020

Kilometer: 2668.5

Frankton Motor Camp

We all slept in way later than usual after our outing last night. With no hiking to do today I was still looking to get some exercise in. I decided to run the trail into downtown queenstown and back. It was about a 15km out and back. The weather was perfect for it. I stopped to take a few pictures along the way.

When I got back to our room I found the guys eating a big brunch of Burger King. I walked up to the Main Street and got myself a pizza. I ate half and took the other half back to the room.

After a shower I took a nap. When I got up we all walked over to the countdown to buy our resupply. I got all my food, some fresh fruit for the evening and tomorrow morning and a pint of berry sorbet. I ate my sorbet and the guys ate popsicles right outside the store sitting on a model swinging bench. We’ve reached peak hobo.

We walked back to the room and decided to go down to the beach for a swim and a tan sesh. The water was a great temperature and the beach was pretty packed. We ate more popsicles.

I grabbed Indian food for dinner. It wasn’t a very exciting day but was a good way to recharge. This was my first day not hiking in three full weeks. The last day I had off we spent not getting a hitch out of Hanmer Springs so it wasn’t even a very relaxing day really. The last zero I had before that was St Arnaud, about 28 days ago. Today will also be our last zero before we arrive in Bluff. We only have about 10 days of hiking left from here.

We will be up early in the morning to hike into queenstown and catch a shuttle around the lake to where the trail restarts. Excited to make the final push to the end!
